Alacati Melon (Cucumis melo)

Alacati Melon (Cucumis melo): Splendid variety from Turkey, more precisely from Alaçatı. It is large and slightly pear-shaped, the skin displays a beautiful yellow colour and green spots, almost like tiger fur. The pulp is white and has a sweet, delicate taste. It keeps well after harvest. It needs a rich, balanced soil, avoiding excess of nitrogen. The plant is on average productive, enjoys full sun exposure, ready about 90 days after transplanting.

(Editor's note :) Among the many varieties of melon that we grow, this one in particular really suprised me, it really is something else: the sweetness of the pulp, the not-too-invasive scent, its rare beauty, and resistant skin makes it a rare, unique ecotype. Truly exceptional.
