Faenza Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus)
Faenza Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus): ancient variety whose fruits hold medium to large size 4/8 Kg, they have thin dark-green skin. The pulp is crispy when ripe, intense red and fragrant, it has very high sugar content which places it at the top for sweetness. The harvest is scalated, from the beginning of August until the beginning of September.
Applying the mulch of the soil with biodegradable plastic film provides a thermal effect that allows for anticipation of the transplant and helps the plant during the first weeks of growth. When the fourth leaf comes out, it is a good practice to top (trim) to favour the growth of axillary shoots from which to obtain more fruits that, in any case, should not be more than 3/4 per plant; beyond this number they should be thinned.
Variety to be saved.
