Dwarf Curly Kale (Brassica oleracea)
Dwarf Curly Kale (Brassica oleracea var. acephala ): this dwarf variety is extremely cold-resistant, easy to grow, and undemanding; suitable for small pots. Sowing can take place directly on the pot, taking care to compact the soil over the seed so as not to let it rise to the surface before the roots are formed.
For consumption, the most tender leaves are eaten raw. It has important nutritional properties: sulforaphane, folic acid, high content of vitamin C, and the possibility of consuming it raw (very good and tender) means that this vitamin does not deteriorate during cooking (vitamin C is thermolabile). Its beautiful bright green will bring lots of colour to the garden or balcony. It is not catalogued as a super food, but it should certainly be part of a balanced diet for winter. Kale is very resistant to cold, which indeed makes the leaves more tender. All varieties of kale are well suited for growing in pots.
